The Goldfinch is a novel by the American writer Donna Tartt, the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2014. The film adaptation by the Irish director, John Crowley, is being released on digital platforms on the 6th of December.
The main character is Theo Decker, a thirteen-year-old boy who survives a terrorist attack at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In the collapse, the boy loses his mother and, to survive the tragedy, finds comfort in a picture seen at the museum: The goldfinch by the Dutch painter, Carel Fabritius.
Theo is then adopted by a wealthy Park Avenue family until the arrival of his father, who takes him to Las Vegas. Back in New York after several years, Theo is overwhelmed by a scam that concerns The goldfinch.
