The 2017 edition of the Orchids festival in London pays homage to India

Over 3,600 species of orchids of all shapes and colours are on display until the 5th of March at the Botanic Gardens in Kew
The 2017 edition of the flower show is coming to an end, an event held every year in the Botanic Gardens in Kew, South-West London. Over 3,600 species of orchids of all shapes and colours are on display until the 5th of March at the Princess of Wales Conservatory. The 22nd edition of the festival is dedicated to India in celebration of the country's 70th year of independence. The exhibition shows how orchids are used in culture, religion, medicine and Indian daily life. India is considered by botanists as a major orchid habitat.

The exhibition includes floral displays, film screenings and Indian-inspired dishes. A soundscape was also created for the event that reproduces the sounds of a typical day in Kolkata, from birds calls to the noise of the city.   (Image: kew.org)
