South Africa: the art of a nation

An exhibition dedicated to the 100,000 years of history and South African art is open to the public until the 26th of February at the British Museum
The British Museum in London has been hosting an exhibition devoted to the art and history of South Africa since last autumn. Through archaeological, historic and contemporary artworks, the exhibition traces the ancient history, the colonial period, apartheid, and the birth of the modern state to South Africa today. Some 200 objects are organized into seven key episodes of the country's history. Each section is illustrated with works by contemporary artists who offer a current perspective on South Africa's past. You can find out more about some of the objects on display on the British Museum website. These objects include the golden rhinoceros, a symbol of the Mapungubwe Order, South Africa's highest honor first presented to Nelson Mandela in 2002.
You can find the press release with further information about the exhibition here.
