Locked Down is the first major film written, directed and set during the pandemic, available now in the US on HBO Max. Directed by Doug Liman, the film tells the story of a couple living in London during the first lockdown. The main characters are played by Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The couple are on the verge of separating, but the arrival of the pandemic forces them into domestic isolation. When the wife is fired, the couple decide to steal a precious diamond from Harrods, the luxury department store.
Screenwriter Steven Knight talked about what it meant to write a film about the ongoing pandemic. He talked about the Zoom scenes included in the film, or the use of new expressions like 'social distancing’, 'new normal' or 'Covid-friendly.'
