The film is presented as a sequel to the 2010 film, Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton. In fact, the two films share many of the cast members in common: Mia Wasikowska plays Alice, Johnny Depp the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter is the Red Queen while Anne Hathaway stars as the White Queen.
